NUWC Division, Keyport Employee Spotlight: Joshua Udasco

Sustaining our warfighting advantage requires a dedicated team of experts committed to Fleet readiness. Among these experts is Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport Electronics Engineer Joshua Udasco.

Joshua was born in Tacoma, Washington, but spent his formative years in Hawaii. He first became interested in robotics as a grade schooler after seeing the movie “Iron Man.”

“My passion for becoming an electrical engineer was kind of kick-started by seeing that superhero go ahead and do some cool things with his suit,” said Joshua. “Maybe one day I'll make a robot like that as well.”

After finishing high school, Joshua earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with a concentration in biomedical applications from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He then moved to Bremerton, Washington, where he briefly worked as a field engineer building generators. The following year, he began working as an electrical engineering contractor at Keyport, where his skill in designing and testing circuit boards quickly made an impression.

In 2023, Josha began his current civilian position, in which he designs, tests and troubleshoots undersea vehicles. Since then, he has continuedto deliver high-caliber workand take on increasing levels of responsibility. He recently completed a one-year engineering rotation at Penn State University's Applied Research Laboratory, one of the Navy's elite University Affiliated Research Centers. In 2024, his team won the “Excellence in Innovation Technical (Team)” Command Award.

Joshua’s colleagues praised his contributions and attitude.

“I have worked with Joshua on numerous projects, and he always seems to bring an uplifting spirit to the office,” said one coworker. “His technical knowledge and attention to detail are always appreciated.”

Another coworker added, “He came in and just fit in with us right away. He’s a quick learner, eager to learn new stuff, and easy to work with.”

Joshua's work directly supports the first and second Naval Sea Systems Command Enterprise Strategy Lines of Effort: “Accelerate Force Generation” and “Generate Readiness.”

Outside of work, Joshua enjoys playing the guitar and piano, playing video games with his girlfriend and traveling. He has a goal of visiting 30 countries before he turns 30.
